Anyone in the world

adlCommunity.net has been up and running for two weeks now and growing every day. We are very excited about the increasing international participation (see map).

TeamThis is definitely a team effort. Currently the facilitators include Jason Haag, Katherine Hildebrand, Patricia Mulligan, Damon Regan, Traci Sitzman, Shirley Tessler, Avron Barr and Judy Brown. There are three new areas under construction which we hope to release in the next week or so with additional facilitators. What areas are we missing? Would you like to facilitate a section or discussion area? Just send a message to feedback.

We’ll be using this blog from the adlCommunity team to showcase special activities, respond to questions, make announcements and provide tips. (Are you aware that you too can set up a blog and share your experiences with distributed learning? Just go to your profile under administration and click on the Blogs tab at the top.)

QuestionLet’s get started with a few questions…

Why was this site established? Why now?
Distributed learning using SCORM and CORDRA continue to grow and it is getting harder and harder to keep up with all the variety of exciting innovations. We hope that by enabling self posting we can create a live virtual community to “Support the Global Advancement of Distributed Learning.”

SCORM 2004, 3rd Edition, is also becoming final which accomplishes the initial goals of the ADL Vision – learning content modularity and interoperability. Technology continues to offer new capabilities. We hope to discover as a community where distributed learning will go next.

Why Moodle?
We explored the capabilities that we hoped to implement and found several great tools, but we wanted a single sign-on and ease of use, so looked for a modular community tool. Although this is built for instruction, we have been able to customize it for our community.
